Mr. Charles E. Pittman, age 79, of Powder Springs, passed away December 6, 2017.

He was born March 15, 1938 in Alto, GA and moved to Marietta in 1945. He went to first grade at the age of 6 at Park Street School. His family moved to Fair Oaks in 1949 where he entered 5th grade at Robert L. Osborne School. As a child he worked at A & P Stores and at several gas stations owned by M.W. Wise. He joined the Georgia Air National Guard in the 11th grade and went to basic training between his junior and senior year of high school. After basic training he returned to graduate from Robert L. Osborne class of 1957. After high school he joined regular Air force and was stationed in Alabama, Mississippi, Alaska, Korea, Thailand and 3 times in Texas. After 22 years of service he retired from the Air Force and went to work for Naval Air Station Atlanta. He retired from NAS after 14 years and went to work for Six Flags Over Georgia as the Candy Man making fudge for 10 years before retiring again. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Powder Springs, American Legion Post 294 in Powder Springs and the Air Force Association. His hobbies included working in his yard, having a garden where he loved to grow vegetables, especially tomatoes. He called bingo and did a lot of other volunteer work for American Legion and each month would hand out food with the First United Methodist Church in Hiram as part of the Atlanta Food Bank.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Ethel Dunnagan Pittman; brother, James Pittman; wife, Yumi Pittman; son, Donald (Don) Pittman.

Mr. Pittman is survived by many friends, especially, Thomas Gerbeck and his wife, Walle Ann Gerbeck.

Graveside services will be held Thursday December 14 at 1 PM at Georgia Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Mike Wood will officiate. Full military honors will be provided by the U. S. Air Force. The family will receive friends between the hours of 5 until 8 PM Wednesday Dec. 13 at the funeral home.
