STANLEY - Charles E. Hill, age 90, passed away Sunday, August 16, 2015 with his family surrounding him as he entered into the gates of Heaven.
Spirit of '45 is a celebration ending the Second World War and Charles was not only a Veteran of WWII, he was in an elite group of Veterans as he held the rank of Sergeant in the United States Army. Charles worked as an upholsterer in the furniture industry for 40 years until he retired in 1987.
He was a Godly man who loved his family greatly. He was a member of the Stanley First United Methodist Church for 36 years and a member of the Chapel Sunday School Class. Charles also set up a Community Emergency Assistance Fund through his church to assistance those in the community in a financial emergency situation.
Charles is preceded in death by his wife Mary of 45 years. He was the son of the late Charles R. and Ethel Hill. Also entering into Eternity prior to Charles was his son Ronnie, his brother Jack and great grandchild Landon.
Those left behind to cherish and carry on Charles' memories are his four sons: Michael Lee and wife Diane, Robert Hill, Sr. and wife P.J., Greg Hill and wife Pam, Roderick Hill and wife Sherry. Fourteen grandchildren and Thirty Three great grandchildren; Brother: William Hill.
Celebration and Remembrance of life service will be held at 3:00 pm, Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at Stanley First United Methodist Church with Reverend Noel Sweezy officiating. Music will be conducted by Chris Lynch. Pallbearers are Michael Lee, Robert Hill, Sr., Greg Hill, Roderick Hill, Ricky Hill and Robert Hill, Jr.
Charles' family will receive friends at the Church on Wednesday from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm prior to the service.
A committal service will with military honors being delivered will be held at Hillcrest Gardens, Mount Holly.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Stanley, 217 North Main St., Stanley NC, 28164 and Gaston Hospice, P.O. Box 3984, Gastonia, NC 28053. The family would like to thank the staff of Gaston Hospice for all the support and love shown to Charles during his illness.
