Charles L. "Chee" Porter
VINTON - Charles L. "Chee" Porter, age 77, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 with his wife by his side.
He was a native of Welsh who has lived in Vinton most of his life. "Chee" graduated from Welsh high and attended SLI in Lafayette before serving in the US Army. He worked at both Firestone in Sulphur and later at Huntsman Chemicals in Port Neches, TX where he retired. Charles had a love of life, family, and sports. He loved to travel and loved to try different foods. He was happiest when teaching his grandkids to play ball and coaching. In his younger day, he loved to Rodeo in the bull riding and calf roping events. He never met a stranger. Charles was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle who will be greatly missed.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife and best friend of 49 years, Verlie Navarre Porter; son, Jim C. Porter; three step-children, DeEtte Hilton and husband, Mark; Evelyn Lanclos and husband, Greg; Lynne Heinen and husband, Frederick; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his step-son, Everette Joseph Breaux, Jr., parents, Gus C. and Myrtie Ruth Marcantel Porter, sister, Marcia L. Gay, grandparents, Abrieal "Pappy" Marcantel, Marceline "Mammy" Marcantel.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Hixson Funeral Home in Vinton. Burial will follow in Mimosa Pines Cemetery in Carlyss. Visitation will be held 4-8 p.m. Friday and will resume at 10 a.m. Saturday all at the funeral home. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.hixsonfuneralhomes.com
