Charles Rasmus Brust was born on March 8, 1931 in New Ulm, Minnesota the son of Richard and Hertha (Anderson) Brust. He was baptized and confirmed in the Episcopal Church in New Ulm. Charlie graduated from the New Ulm High School in 1949, he then continued his education at Gustavus Adolphus College where he played football, and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. He then served with the U.S. Army stationed two years in Germany. Charles and Constance Muesing were married on December 28, 1952 in the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. After their marriage Charlie was in the Army and Connie was attending the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, and in 1955 he started teaching Biology in the Montevideo High School where the Brust's were very active with the school pep club. He coached for a short time and then did a lot of refereeing in all sports. He was very musical, playing various instruments by ear with different old time bands. Along with music he also enjoyed hunting, their lake home and fishing. In 1993 they moved to their Clitherall Lake home. Charlie and Connie attended all events such as music, school plays and all sports and were known for their morning walks in the Battle Lake School.
