Charlie Daniel Svrcek passed away peacefully, in his sleep, August 31, 2017, at home surrounded by his family. He was born September 19, 1927 in Beyersville, Tx. on a cotton farm to Charlie and Matilda Malish Svrcek.
Charlie was a World War II veteran. He served in the US Navy aboard the USS Lyman K Swenson DD-729, and was very proud of being a Destroyer sailor. After the war, Charlie and his family eventually settled in Galveston, where he worked for Lipton Tea for 40 yrs, working his way up from a maintenance position to eventually serving as Production Manager, and then Special Projects Manager upon his retirement. During this time he and his wife Grace, built a home at 56th and R in Galveston, doing most of the work themselves.
Being a strong believer in giving back to his community, Charlie was active in the church functions of Our Lady of Guadalupe and Saint Patrick's churches. Particularly the construction and organization of their Bazaar fundraisers.
He was an ardent supporter of Kirwin, Ursuline, and O'Connell schools.
He was also an Assistant Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 104 for several years, and helped in many other Scout activities and camps.
Later in life, Charlie enjoyed traveling in his motor home, working in his workshop on various projects, gardening and cooking up new recipes he'd like to try in the kitchen.
Waiting to meet Charlie in Heaven were his loving wife Grace, his parents and all his siblings. He is survived by his children, Daughter Lynne Matous and her husband Don of Bryan Tx., Son Dan Svrcek and his wife Laura of Santa Fe, Tx.,
Daughter Peg Svrcek of Kasilof, Alaska, and son Jamie Svrcek and his wife Toni of Paige, Tx. Also, survived by Charlie are his grandchildren, Granddaughter Danielle Reagan and her husband Mike of Manchester, TN., Granddaughter Morgan Svrcek of Chesapeake, Va., and Grandson Evan Svrcek of Texas City, Tx. And, Great grandchildren Crystal, Benjamin, and Ashley.
A rosary will be said, at the Chondra Funeral Home in Taylor, Tx. , Monday September 4th, at 7 pm.
Services will be held at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Taylor Tx, Tuesday Sept. 5th at 10 am.
