Charlotte Schultz Custer peacefully passed away at age 92 on January 23, 2018. She was born in Lansdale, PA in 1925 to Harry H. and Juliet Aaron Schultz. She graduated from Bucknell University with a B.A. degree in English. She met Samuel A. Custer and they were married in 1950 and enjoyed 59 years of marriage.

During her married life, she lived in South Carolina, Massachusetts, Ohio, Japan, Virginia, Alabama, Missouri and ultimately settling in Springfield, VA. In 1961, Char joined Grace Presbyterian Church in 1961 and started serving in many capacities, to include: Congregational Care Committee, Greeter Chairperson, Decorating Committee, Aging with Grace Committee, Sunday School and Bible Study Teacher, Covenant Group Member, Evangelism Committee, Nominating Committee, Couples Club, Fellowship Committee, and Circle III Member for 50+ years. She was also involved in ECHO and as a church driver.

Char's biggest joy came from talking about and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling in the US and abroad and loved playing tennis and golf. She volunteered for the Red Cross and at the White House. She had many life-long friends who she traveled to see and enjoyed their yearly jaunts to Hilton Head.

Survivors include three children, Karen Custer Krupa (Robert Henkel) of Chocowinity, NC; Major General (Ret) Scott Custer (Liset) of Springfield, VA; and Jeff Custer (Susan) of Midlothian, VA; six grandchildren, Erin E. Krupa (Marianne), Kristin Krupa Burnette (Jason), Casey A. Custer, Brittany K. Custer, Bradley Custer and Anne Custer; two step grandchildren, Christopher Allen and Rebecca Allen Rossi (Matt); and three great grandchildren, Elyse and Abigail Burnette and Carolina Krupa.

There will be a memorial service at The Fairfax, 9140 Belvoir Woods Parkway, Ft Belvoir, VA 22060 at 2pm on Saturday, February 10, 2018 in the Activities Room. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery in a private service at a later date where she will join her beloved husband, Sam.
