Gorham: Christopher M. Burt, Sr., age 61, passed away peacefully at his home on February 10, 2012, while surrounded by his wife and children. He leaves behind his loving wife and best friend of 21 years, Meg Brewin; son, Christopher M. Burt, Jr.; two daughters, Melissa Burt Kestler and Aimee Burt (Bruce Jr.) Hawkins; six adoring grandchildren, McKenzie and Sophie Kestler, Foxie, Millie, Bennie, and Ollie Hawkins; mother, Betty Burt; three siblings, Alex (Kathy) Burt, Andrea (John) Roberts, and Steve (Karen) Burt; mother-in-law, Ann Brewin; brother-in-law, Roger (Kathy) Brewin; sister-in-law, Mary (Joseph)DeAngelo; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Andrew Burt, Jr.; brother, Eugene Burt; favorite aunt and uncle, Myrtle and Wes Collins; father-in-law, Donald Brewin. A lifelong resident of Canandaigua, Chris graduated from Canandaigua Academy, class of 1968. He was a graduate of Alfred Tech where he studied Mechanical Engineering. For the past 22 years, Chris was a successful, independent consulting mechanical/machine design engineer. He worked for many major corporations in Rochester and Western New York. Chris led a very active and fulfilling life. He enjoyed organic farming, design and building, music, playing guitar, skiing, golfing and camping. His beautiful mind gave him the ability to take something old and obsolete and make it new and useful again. Meg always referred to him as her "MacGyver". His love of nature and animals was evident in the many animals he and Meg rescued and adopted from Joyful Rescues in Cuba, NY. Chris was an active lifetime member of the Cheshire Volunteer Fire Dept. and was trained as a smoke diver and pump operator. He was a member of the Ontario County High Angle Rope Rescue Team. The family is sincerely thankful for the support, guidance and compassion that they received from the Ontario-Yates Hospice. A celebration of Chris's life and tree dedication will be held at a later date and time to be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to, Ontario-Yates Hospice, 756 Pre-Emption Rd, Geneva, NY 14456, Joyful Rescues, 1319 Turock Dr., Cuba, NY 14727, or Cheshire Volunteer Fire Dept., Rte 21 South, Canandaigua, NY 14424.
