Born in Seymour, Texas June 30, 1925 to Wilburn Franklin Gallimore and Sallie Melinda Henderson Gallimore, Clydell had a happy childhood. She lived in various Texas towns until about the age of 8 when they moved to Portales, NM. She attended elementary and secondary schools in Portales before graduating high school at age 16. She then attended Eastern New Mexico University where she completed three years, majoring in Education.
Clydell met her husband, John (Johnnie) W. P'Pool at a local Portales skating rink. He was stationed with the Army Air Corps, which later became the U.S. Air Force in nearby Clovis, NM. They married August 9, 1947 in Riverside, CA and began their 42 year journey together. They lived the Air Force life in California, Kentucky, South Dakota, Guam, Japan, New Mexico, Nebraska and finally landed in Texas in 1963.
Clydell was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and homemaker. There seemed to be almost nothing that she couldn't do. She was a wonderful cook, housekeeper, mother to her three daughters, seamstress, and church worker. When her husband became medically disabled she took on many extra jobs that other women would run from. She became the lawn keeper, the house painter, the furniture upholsterer and "fixer" of many household problems. But she was always there to lend a listening ear or helpful hand to anyone in need.
As a seamstress, Clydell kept herself and daughters, as well as her husband, clothed in the best outfits around. She was able to make each of the girls a beautiful wedding dress, taking hours to sew on thousands of beads and trim on each dress. She also gardened, canned homemade vegetables, jams and jellies, crocheted, did needlepoint and dabbled in ceramics.
Clydell loved the Lord, and showed it in her life. She was a long time member of Southwest Park Baptist Church in Abilene where she served in Women's Ministries, Missions and as a Sunday School teacher of both children and adults. She attended faithfully until she became homebound several years ago.
Second to the Lord in importance was her family which blossomed to include not only her three daughters, but sons-in-law, 8 grandchildren and their spouses, and now 23 great-grandchildren and one due in the spring of 2018.
She was preceded in death by her parents, W.F. and Sallie Gallimore; her brother, Cedric Cecil Gallimore; and her husband, John W. P'Pool. Surviving are her three daughters and their families, Becky and Clark Trainham of Abilene, Brenda and Dan Gideon of Little Elm, TX, and Beverly Roddy of the Woodlands, TX. Grandchildren include Matthew and April Gideon and children, Hannah, Noah, Sarah Beth and Judah of Little Elm, TX; John David and Akane Roddy and children, Ryuka, Rion and Haruto of Bossier City, LA, Tiffany and Paul Marconi of Hurst, TX; Nathaniel and Kelly Roddy and children, Holly, Brandon, Victoria, Abigail, Seth and Jacob of Montgomery, TX; Mark Andrew and Yumiko Roddy and children, Kaito, Ryuto, and Hayato of Dayton, OH; Timothy Wayne and Tanya Roddy and daughter, Zara of Spring, TX; Katrina and Michael Oyeyemi-Kutey and children, Maddox, Ellyona, Zarina and E.J. Oyeyemi-Kutey of Weatherford, TX; and James-Michael and Seleste Wells Trainham and children, Grace and Owen Trainham of Anson, TX.
Clydell, always full of adventure, road a four wheeler at age 80 and a jet ski at 82. At 92 she made the most exciting move of all as she joined her Savior in Heaven on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at 3:00a.m. The family will host a visitation at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Hwy 277 South Abilene, TX this Thursday evening, November 30, 2017 from 6-8p.m. The funeral will be held there also on Friday, December 1, 2017 at 2:00p.m. with interment to follow in Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be her six grandsons. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the charity of your choice.
