Concepcion Magallanes, age 97, passed away at her home in Escondido, California on May 19, 2017.

Concepcion was born on June 13, 1919 in Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico, to the late Crescencio Magallanes and Concepcion Gomez, also of Morelia. Concepcion was the youngest of eight children, who preceded her in death.

Concepcion married the late Salvador Huerta in Mexico City in 1939, and is survived by their only daughter Maria Elena Lemus, born in Mexico City, Mexico, and a current resident of Escondido, California. After being widowed in 1946, Concepcion immigrated to the United States and eventually settled permanently in Escondido in 1965 with her daughter Maria Elena and her son in law, Roberto Lemus Pedroza, originally of Leon, Mexico. Concepcion worked for more than 50 years as a domestic worker and belonged to the Third Order of Saint Francis, the Franciscan movement of the Catholic Church. She was active in the St. Mary's Church choir until age 90, and remained devout and active in her faith community until her passing.

Concepcion Magallanes is forever remembered by her only daughter, Maria Elena Lemus and her son-in-law, Roberto Lemus Pedroza, both of Escondido. Concepcion had five grandchildren, the oldest Roberto Lemus preceded her in death as an infant in 1959. She is survived by four living grandchildren, Roberto Lemus of Escondido CA, Alex Lemus of San Diego CA, Laura Lemus of Boston MA, and Albert Lemus of Pasadena CA. She was the proud great grandmother to nine: Robert Russell Lemus, Emilio Estapan Lemus, and Dominique Andres Lemus, sons of Roberto Lemus and his wife Monica Ann Lemus; Daniel Alejandro Lemus and Gabriel Albert Lemus, sons of Alex Lemus and his wife Sylvia Ramirez; Jose Zimmerman and Michael Isaac Zimmerman, sons of Laura Lemus; and Sara Elizabeth Lemus and Eric Andrew Lemus, children of Albert Lemus.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by McLeod Mortuary Viewing will be held at Mcleod Mortuary Thursday May 25, 2017 from 4pm to 8pm with a 6:30pm Rosary. Funeral Mass will be officiated by the Rev. Kenneth Del Priore at Church of the Resurrection in Escondido at 11AM on Friday May 26, 2017, Final resting place at Oak Hill Memorial Park to follow.
