Cornelius Thomas (Tom) Dorans, born on December 3, 1928 in Port Richmond, in Staten Island, New York, passed away on May 23, 2017 in his home at The Legacy at Willowbend in Plano, Texas. Tom graduated from Port Richmond High in 1946. He was drafted into the Army in 1951, serving in Germany during the Korean War. He went on to receive his Bachelor of Law at St. Johns University, New York in 1957, and his Masters of Law from NYU School of Law, New York in 1962. Tom practiced law in New York City at Thacher, Proffitt & Wood, LLP until 1966 when he began a career focused in Real Estate Law with The J.C. Penney Company, starting in New York City and then relocating to Plano, Texas in 1988. He retired from J.C. Penney in 1994 and remained in Plano, Texas.

Tom married his wife, Jean (formerly Fager), also from Staten Island, New York in July of 1951. They celebrated their 65th anniversary in 2016. They lived, among other places, in West Brighton and Westerleigh in Staten Island, where they raised their family of 7 children and were very active members of Blessed Sacrament Church. Tom served on the Parish Counsel and was a lector at Sunday masses.

In 1988, they relocated to Plano, Texas and became members of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton parish where Tom volunteered his services as a lector, pre cana marriage counselor, and CCD instructor. After his retirement, Tom continued his volunteer work counting the collection money, tutoring ESL students, reading books on tape for the blind and being a test proctor at a local school.

Tom is predeceased by 2 sons, Glenn and Douglas, and 2 of his brothers, Edward Dorans (Marilyn) and William Dorans (Linda). He is survived by his wife, Jean, his sister, Dorothy Gaeta, and his sons Michael, Barry, Keith and David, his daughters, Ellen Giblin and Anne Sullivan, his sons' in law, Joseph Giblin and Edward Sullivan, his daughters in law, Laura, Charlotte, Lisa Marie and Rebecca, 4 grandchildren - Svetlana Hurst (Brendon), Elizabeth, Kathryn and Matthew and 1 great grandchild, Kai Hurst. He is predeceased by his grandson, Bradley.

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Plano, Texas on Friday, May 26th at 3PM. Reception to follow.
