Fannie Dale Cheek Underwood met our Lord and Savior on January 27, 2018, after a full, 97-year life on Earth. She was born on January 4, 1921 to Ann and Lonnie Cheek in Tyler, TX. Dale graduated from Tyler High School, where she was elected Sophomore Favorite for 1937, Junior Favorite, Best All-Around Girl and Sweetheart of Frater Club for 1938. After high school, Dale attended Tyler Junior College, where she was an Apache Bell twirler and named "Dream Girl" for the College. Dale later transferred to Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX. At Texas Tech, she was a member of the woman's club, Sans Souci, which would later become the Greek women's fraternity, Kappa Alpha Theta.

On December 18, 1943, Dale married the love of her life, Fred Q. Underwood, in Twentynine Palms, CA, while Fred was stationed in the Army Air Corps as an instructor pilot during World War II. After the war, the couple lived briefly in Littlefield and Lamesa, TX, where Fred worked in the family cotton warehousing business. In 1952, the couple moved to Lubbock, TX, where they established their family home and remained for the rest of their lives. Fred and Dale enjoyed 60 years together as husband and wife until Fred Q. passed away in 2003. Their marriage produced two children, Fred A. of Lubbock, TX, and Shelley of Norwalk, Connecticut.

Dale will be missed by her family and friends, and will be remembered as a true lady. Always impeccably dressed, she carried herself with an elegant grace, and exhibited a quick wit and ever-present sense of humor. Dale and Fred enjoyed travelling and entertaining, and hosted numerous charity events in their home. She had a strong love for her community and was active in multiple community organizations such as the Junior League of Lubbock, West Texas Museum Association, Lubbock Women's Club, and First Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Questers Sunday School Class.

Dale was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and in-laws, Minnie and Arch Underwood. Survivors include her son, Fred A. and wife Pam; daughter, Shelley; grandchildren, Jennifer Schwenker and husband Rob (Austin, TX), Becca Dickerson and husband Quinton (Madison, MS), Brett Underwood and wife O'Neal (Lubbock, TX); and great-grandchildren Finley and Catherine Schwenker, Price and Britton Dickerson, and Arch, Adelaide, and Harris Underwood. She is also survived by her nieces and nephew, to whom she was especially close: Sandy and Alan Henry; Kay and John Dudley, and Carlton Devlin.
