Dan Wilson, Jr.

March 25, 1925 - January 18, 2018

Dan Wilson passed away January 18th at the age of 92. A lifelong Boulder native, he was born in the family home on 7th Street which is now Hawthorn Street. He was the youngest of nine children by Dan and Clara Bruer Wilson who moved to Boulder from Iowa in the early 1920s. He will be laid to rest in the family plot at Mountain View Memorial Park in Boulder.

He served in the Navy in WWII, worked in the Physics Dept. at CU and in the Chemistry Dept. at Metropolitan State University from where he retired. He received a citation for heroism for saving a co-workers life while working as a lineman for Mountain Bell Telephone Co.

Dan passionately loved all sports especially baseball and football. He coached Little League teams in the 1960s and played Senior Men's Softball. He also loved to dance and enjoyed big band dance music. He sang and played drums in several bands in the Boulder-Denver area. He was a model railroad enthusiast, story teller, hiker and world traveler. In his eighties he started painting in oils and watercolors.

Dan was preceded in death by his son Rodney. His surviving children are Steve (Maureen) of Missouri, Sam, Kansas, Danette, Colorado, Andrea, New York, Gaye, Oregon and Reid, Hawaii. He will be missed by his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A family graveside service will be followed by a Celebration of Life reception for family and friends at Golden West Manor on Wednesday, January 24th at 2:30 pm. Visitors should meet in the 11th floor, Central Tower, Aspen Room at 1055 Adams Circle, Boulder.
