Dana (Doc) Eldo Nickell, age 64, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2017 at the
Veterans Hospital in Fresno. His sudden death was caused by an aggressive lung cancer.

Dana leaves his son, Kyle R Nickell; his stepchildren Thanhya Pierce of Tulare and
Michael Wilson of Visalia; his five step grandchildren Brittany Gabbard, Cortnie Johnson, Danny
Pierce, Skylar Wilson and Hayden Wilson; his mother Joyce Nickell; and his eight siblings Cathy
Rutherford, Linda Wolford, Karen Davis, Karla Wade, Bill Nickell, Darlene Falcon, Sheila
Hatfield and step-brother Nick Creed.

He was born to Kertis and Joyce Nickell. He grew up in Fresno and graduated from
Fresno High School. His outgoing personality was perfectly suited for Theatre Arts where he
shined as an actor in many high school plays.

He married Linda Hurlbert in 1973 and they had one son, Kyle R Nickell.

Dana completed two tours of duty in the U.S. Army from 1973 to 1979 and received an
Honorable Discharge. During his first tour of duty, Dana was stationed in Germany and
submersed himself in the German culture, learning some of the language. He shared with family
and friends many fun and interesting stories upon his return to the states. Dana and his family
lived in Colorado Springs, CO during his second tour of duty. They spent many hours hiking and
discovering the outdoors of Colorado. He served as a truck mechanic.

Dana married a second time, taking Vicki Powell as his wife in 1990. He is preceded in
death by Vicki, his father Kertis and his brother Randy Nickell. Dana and Vicki lived mainly in
the Porterville/Tulare area until her death. He was a welder by trade.

Dana loved to spend time in the mountains hunting, fishing and camping with friends and
family. He took careful care of his guns and hunting knives; honing the knife blades to a
dangerously sharp edge. He spent many hours at his local bar or pub playing pool and darts,
singing karaoke and dancing with the ladies, including his wife Vicki. He participated in pool
tournaments for himself and mudd volleyball tournaments raising funds for the March of Dimes.
The social butterfly in his soul made him well-known and loved by all, whether he was on
the job, at the local bar, or in his neighborhood community.

Dana also had a great love for riding and working on his motorcycles. He owned at least
two bikes over his lifetime; a Triumph and a Harley Davidson. He spent many hours sharing the
road with his biker brothers. He had so much fun, on the road and in the bar, he found himself in
life threatening and inconvenient situations a time or two. He seemed to have a guardian angel
who pulled him through those tough times.

In Dana's own words, "I have no regrets. I have lived a long and full life with the sun in
my face and the wind at my back. I enjoyed every minute of it!"

You are loved and missed dear father, son, brother and friend.
