Daniel Gordon Caldwell, 75, of Morganton, went to be with the Lord Monday, September 8, 2014 at Grace Hospital in Morganton.
Mr. Caldwell was born in Burke County, North Carolina on March 18, 1939 to the late Pete and Josephine Avery Caldwell. He was married to his wife of fifty three years, Jana Kanipe Caldwell. He was a machine operator with Dixie Container with whom he dedicated many years of service. Mr. Caldwell was a faithful member of Willow Tree AME Church in Morganton, where he was a former trustee, president of the Men's Choir, and president of the Men's Club. He was also a member of the Burke County Prayer Band. Mr. Caldwell was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Caldwell was preceded in death by a son, David Vincent Caldwell; a grand-daughter, Amelia Jana Rutherford; and two sisters, Nannie Ervin and Annie Mae Caldwell.
Survivors include his wife Jana Caldwell of the home; a daughter, Penelope Caldwell Rutherford and husband Tony of Shreveport, LA; two sons, Danney Christopher Caldwell of the home and Derrick Leon Caldwell and wife Dawn of Drexel; a special granddaughter, Nicole Caldwell McMullen and husband Shawn of Morganton; grandchildren, Daulton, Antwan, Jacob, Peyton, Daniel, Sydney, Anthony, David, Nicci and Molly; great-grandchildren, Diamond, Destynee, Desmond, Talaijah and Shy; two brothers, William "Bill" Caldwell and wife Delia, and Ernest "Bear" Caldwell; two sisters, Angelee Connelly and husband Ted and Mary Elizabeth Caldwell, all of Morganton; four brothers-in-law, Bruce Ervin, Ed Jackson, Bobby Michaux, and James Corpening, all of Morganton; two sisters-in-law, Gladys Kanipe and Eloise Corpening, both of Morganton; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral service will be conducted at 3pm Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Willow Tree AME Church in Morganton with Reverend Kerry Rigsbee, Reverend Ronald Owens, Reverend R.G. Ferguson, Reverend Tommy Carpenter and Reverend Debra Caldwell officiating. The family will receive friends from 2pm until 3pm prior to the service at the Church.
