Daniel James Barrett, 51, of Tariffville, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 2, 2015, at his home. Born in Willimantic on December 28, 1963, son of James H. Barrett and Geraldine (Rood) Ziegler, he was raised in Simsbury and Windsor Locks and was a graduate of Windsor Locks High School, Class of 1982. Daniel had lived in Windsor Locks and Windsor before moving to Tariffville 10 years ago. Daniel worked as a carpenter and roofer in the Hartford area for many years. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing in the local rivers, lakes, and in Long Island Sound. He was an avid gardener and animal lover, and especially enjoyed taking care of the vegetable plants around his home and his three cats. He leaves his parents, James H. Barrett of East Granby and Geraldine Ziegler and her husband Wayne of Port Orange, FL; his significant other of many years, Dawn Beard of Barkhamsted; a brother, Ted Barrett and his wife Micki of Granby; two nieces, Ashley Barrett of Granby and Amanda Barrett of Old Orchard Beach, ME; three stepbrothers, Randy Colburn and his wife Bonnie of Vernon, Jeff Colburn and his wife Carla of Port Orange, FL, and Michael Ziegler of Vernon; three stepsisters, Judy Guthrie and her husband Jim of Windsor Locks, Sandy Boyko and her husband Tony of Colchester, and Tina Burckhalter and her husband Mike of Brooksville, FL. His family will receive friends on Saturday, September 19, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., with a prayer service at 12 Noon, at the Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St., Granby. Burial will be private. Daniel's family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association, CT Chapter, 2075 Silas Deane Hwy #100, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
