Daniel M. Davis passed away on January 21, 2018, in Dallas, Texas. He was born on October 2, 1933, in Dawson, Texas, to James Edgar Davis and Alice Moseley Davis. Dan graduated from Dawson High School in 1951. He attended Southern Methodist University and graduated in 1954 with a major in Accounting. He was a proud member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity and was admitted into membership in its Golden Legion in 2002, signifying fifty years of membership in the fraternity.
Dan married Carol Mottley in 1955. They were happily married for 31 years until Carol's untimely passing from cancer in 1986. Dan and Carol raised three sons, Randy, Kenneth and Jim. He later married Patsy Oliver Bragg.
Dan began his professional career in public accounting and became a Certified Public Accountant. He was active in the Dallas business community for many years and was known as a specialist in Trusts and Estates. Following many years as a Trust Officer with the First National Bank of Dallas, Dan became a partner in the accounting firm of Middleton, Burns and Davis until his retirement in 1999. As an expert in his field, he testified before the U. S. Senate Finance Committee in Washington, D.C., in 1976, regarding a proposed tax bill.
Dan was very active in his community serving as President of the Dallas Estate Planning Council and serving on the boards of directors for the Dallas Police Foundation, the Town North YMCA and the Dallas County Council of Camp Fire Girls. He also served as President of the North Dallas Chamber of Commerce baseball league and was awarded the Stan Dowell award for outstanding service to youth in the community. Dan was a life member of the Dallas Salesmanship Club and will be remembered for marshalling on the 17th green for many years.
Dan was an avid sports fan of SMU athletics, the Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Mavericks and Texas Rangers. He coached his sons' football, basketball and baseball teams for years, and had a very positive impact on the lives of the many players that he coached.
Dan was a voracious reader and history buff - particularly of World War II history. His main hobbies were golf and poker. He was proud of maintaining a golf handicap under ten for many years and shooting a hole-in-one on the Masters Course at Brookhaven Country Club, where he was a member almost from its founding. Outside of his family, Dan loved nothing better than being with his golf and poker buddies.
Dan was a charter member of the "great" Texas Delta Investments, an investment club made up of his college Phi Delt brothers. They met socially each month for over fifty years and made the occasional investment while enjoying each other's company.
