Sedgwick -Daniel Scott MacGregor Doyle, age 30, passed away Saturday at his home in Sedgwick. He was born Saturday, June 12, 1982, in Jonesboro, to Michael and Robyn Doyle of Sedgwick. Daniel attended Hoxie School from Kindergarten throughout his high school graduation in 2000. He learned early his love for words, reading, and writing. He was a musician and shared his love of music with all he knew. Daniel had a magnificent sense of humor, and his compassion and love for his friends from school, his sister, cousins, and family were enduring and true. Daniel attended Arkansas Governor's School in 1999 on the campus of Hendrix College, and after graduating from high school decided to continue his education at Hendrix. While there he studied English and French, and earned his baccalaureate degree in 2004. Daniel graduated with distinction from Hendrix, and was the recipient of both the Shakespeare Award and the McCuistion English Prize, the highest honor awarded by the department. While at Hendrix, Daniel wrote for the college newspaper and volunteered at the campus radio station. He made many friends while in school in Conway, and loved and cherished them until the day he died. After leaving Hendrix, Daniel worked as a reporter for the Log Cabin Democrat in Conway, as well as the Jonesboro Sun.

Daniel was accepted into the graduate program at Ohio University Scripps School of Journalism. He earned a Masters Degree there in 2012 after completion of a major thesis focusing on the constitutionality of the Citizens United Supreme Court decision. He currently worked as a sports reporter-writer for the Jonesboro Sun. In addition, Daniel had essays published in online blogs and journals.

Daniel was a lifelong member of the Sedgwick United Methodist Church and accepted Jesus as his savior at an early age. Daniel was adamant that God is present in all religions, and that God's love reaches all people throughout the world. Daniel put the love of Jesus into action, working as an advocate for progressive causes, and using his passion, intellect, and kindness to work to make life better for people in his local community. Daniel respected the spiritual beliefs of everyone he knew, and especially his mother, who remained his confidant throughout his life.

Daniel was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Roy and Lenore Doyle of Hoxie; maternal grandparents Russell and Maxine Scott of Sedgwick; his Mammie Tony, Dr. Mildred Vance, of Sedgwick; his uncles Danny Scott of Sedgwick and JR Doyle of Jonesboro; other family members; and his best friend, Garrett Truxler of Sedgwick.

Daniel is survived by his father Michael Belk Doyle and mother Robyn Scott Doyle of Sedgwick; his sister and best friend Libby Doyle James and brother-in-law Zach James of Sedgwick; and a nephew, Rowan Scott Zachary James of Sedgwick. Other survivors include a large and loving family of aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as many friends.

A celebration of his life will be Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at 10:00 am at the Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kelly Craft and Rev. Nancy Rainwater officiating. Burial will be a Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5:00 until 7:00 pm at the Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home at 300 W. Matthews Ave.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Drew Craft, Jesse Craft, Derek Doyle, David House, Tim Nichols, Phillip Doyle, Steven Doyle and Tim Doyle.

Contributions or gifts in his memory may be made to the Sedgwick United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.
