David G. Acosta, age 90, of Odessa, Texas passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2017. David was born September 24, 1926 to Luz Acosta and Eugenio Acosta in Grandfalls, Texas.
He was the fifth child of a family of eight and grew up in Fort Stockton, Texas where attended Butz School. David lost his father at the age of 9 years and helped his family members in providing a living for the family. His older brothers were forced to drop out of school to seek employment to support the family.
When World War II broke out, three of his older brothers were drafted into the military. Soon after, David decided to join them and enlisted in the U. S. Navy having attained the rank of Seaman 2nd Class and was stationed aboard Aircraft Carrier USS Takanis Bay (CVE-89). He received an Honorable Discharge after serving honorably for nine years.
During his time away, his mother moved the family to Grandfalls, Texas and David began seeking employment to help his family. It was during this time that he found the love of his life, Romelia Rico. He eventually found employment as a civil service employee at Pyote, Texas military air base and later transferred to San Antonio, Texas, Big Spring, Texas and finally to Del Rio, Texas. He retired from Civil Service in December 1992 and returned with his family to Odessa, Texas where he lived the remainder of his life.
David is survived by daughter Pat Marino and husband Jerry of Del Rio, Texas; son Ricky Acosta and wife Belinda of Odessa, Texas: son Daniel Acosta of New Braunfels, Texas; and son Roy Acosta of Beeville, Texas: sister-in-law Anita Acosta of Fort Stockton, Texas and brother Abel Acosta of Waxahachie, Texas: grandchildren Richard Anthony and Christina Acosta, Daniel Elijah, Jonathan and Ambrosia Machuca, and Veronica A. Rios.
David was preceded in death by his wife Romelia R. Acosta, father Eugenio Acosta and mother Luz Acosta; son Michael D. Acosta; sister-in-law Viola Acosta; sisters Petra and Lupe Acosta; and brothers Cisto, Thomas, Frank, and Joe Acosta.

The Funeral Mass for David will be celebrated on Monday, September 25, 2017 at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 907 S. Dixie Blvd., Odessa, Texas. Mr. Acosta's internment will be follow at the Ector County Cemetery, 300 S. Dixie Blvd, Odessa, Texas. Visitation will occur Sunday, September 24, 2017 from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Odessa Funeral Home, 1700 N. Jackson, Odessa, Texas with the Chaplet of Divine Mercy beginning at 6:00 PM followed by the Rosary.
