David Hammond passed away Saturday May 24, 2014 of cardiac arrest. He was born in Everett, Washington on October 31, 1944 to Lester and Julia Hammond. He spent most of his childhood
In Wenatchee. He was industrious. Even as a child he always had a paper route. David worked at
Deaconess Hospital in Wenatchee where he met and soon married Joan in 1964. They moved to Everett where they had two daughters. He retired from NORD Door in 1982 and then started Hammonds Acres of Rhodies in Arlington. In 2011 David and his family moved to Humptulips to live on 22 acres of
Forest and 4,000 rhododendrons. He could be heard singing country tunes while working on his
Tractor. In 2009 he and Joan added a peony nursery to their repertoire.
David was a charter member of the Komo Kulshan Chapter and the Pilchuck Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society. He was the Kom Kulshan Chapter's president from 2003 to 2006. He was awarded the ARS Bronze medal by both chapters for his extensive service. If you wanted a particular type of Rhododendron, Dave would do his best to find it. He traveled to the UK to find more
Varieties for his nursery and the society. His knowledge of Rhododendrons was extensive. Just about
Every garden in Snohomish County has a rhody from their nursery. Dave was well known throughout America for his knowledge, generosity and friendship. He will be missed by so many.
David is proceded in death by his daughter Susan Kay Hammond, sisters Imogene Wright and parents.
He leaves behind, wife Joan Hammond, daughter; Renee Hammond, sisters; Nora Novak, Mary Olson and Peggy Schnell, brother; Henry Hammond (Billie) and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He is best known for his love of Rhododendrons and Peonies.
Services will be held Friday, May 30, 2014 at 2:00 pm with a visitation beginning at 10:00 am at Purdy
& Walters with Cassidy Funeral Home, 1702 Pacific Ave, Everett, WA. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Everett following the funeral service, approx. 3:00 pm.
