David Johnson Lewis, age 76, of Killeen, Texas, passed away Saturday, October 28th, 2017 after a lengthy illness.

David "Gut' Lewis was born April 19, 1941, in Princeton, Kentucky to A.B. and Inell White Lewis. He lost both of his parents at an early age, and was raised by his grandmother, " Fat Mama" Lewis. He attended school in Princeton, and excelled in football, where he won many awards. He attended college at Murray State University on a football scholarship, and later played for the Denver Broncos until injuries ended his career. He returned to Princeton, and married Carol West Garrell in 1968. They moved to Killeen, Texas that year and David began a career in the automotive business than spanned almost 50 years. David was liked and respected in the automotive industry, and possessed a unique style for describing a vehicle he was selling. David also served for 26 years on the board of directors of Bartlett Electric Co., eventually retiring as president.

David's passion was for training and showing cutting horses. He attended many cutting horse shows, and won numerous awards. Declining health forced him to give up his passion.

David is survived by his wife, Carol Lewis, daughter Kellie Kaminska, and husband Jim, as well as four grandchildren, David Lee Garrell IV, and wife Samantha, Corey Barrett, and wife Ashley, Tyson Kaminska and wife Sarah, and Kelsie Kaminska. He also has five beautiful great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and son David Lee Garrell III.

A private service will be held at the Garden of Memories cemetery in Youngsport, TX.
