David Prozzo passed away peacefully the evening of Sept 27th at Alexian Hospital in St.Louis, Missouri at age 94
He was the only son of Alice Sealock (Beaver) and Ralph Prozzo.
He was born in Peoria, Ill and died 1 day before the 36th anniversary of his mother's death at age 101.
He was preceded in death by 1 half-brothers and 6 half-sisters.
He grew up in Peoria and Havana, Ill and for a while he and his mother and step-father lived in a railroad boxcar provided by the railroad serving the coal docks in Havana, Ill, He was a teenager at the time and they moved from relative to relative during the depression.
He received his radio engineer license at Valparaiso Technical Institute, and started his first job at WGAL Radio in Galesburg, Ill. In the early 1946. He went on to work at WMBD Radio in the late 1947. Then he moved on to WISC-TV in Madison, WI in the mid 1950's. He also worked at KDNL-TV in St. Louis, Mo. from 1972 until his retirement in 1990. He recently received his 75 year pin from the IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) Local #4 in St. Louis.
He lived with epilepsy from age 17 and could not serve in the military. He did not marry to avoid passing on the gene of epilepsy to any offspring. He loved music, played the organ, used computers daily, and enjoyed vacations in the mountains of the western United States. He enjoyed flower gardening, cooking, crossword puzzles and his 3 pet birds.
He leaves behind many nieces and nephews along with many other relatives and friends.
He also leaves behind his friend and companion Robert "Bobby" Kirschnik of over 50 years and David "Dave" Stiles his 2nd cousin's son of 50+ years whom he always called his two "adopted" sons for their devotion and help throughout the years.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, October 6, 2017 at Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria. Visitation will be the evening prior at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Burial will be at Fondulac Cemetery.
Donations may be made to the National Epilepsy Foundation for the purpose of continued research in this vital field.
