David R. Ambrose, 66, of Angel Fire, NM, died peacefully Friday afternoon June 7, 2013 at the home of his mother, surrounded by his loving family. David was born in Gardner, April 7, 1947, son of Raymond "Pete" Ambrose and Irene L. (Graves) Perreault, and has lived in Angel Fire the last 35 years. David was raised in Baldwinville. He is a graduate of Notre Dame High School in Fitchburg, and studied hotel and restaurant management at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. David proudly served his country during Vietnam with the United States Army. David was a gifted athlete. He enjoyed working hard. He would shovel his driveway and chop wood just for the exercise. He spent summers in Alaska fishing, and for two years fighting forrest fires. While in New Mexico he worked for a Ski Resort as ski patrol director and he managed a small chain of convenience stores. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his spare time. Not only was David a founding father of the village of Angel Fire, a member of the first council, and a best friend of the current Mayor Barbara Cottam, he was a favorite son. David was much loved by many for his intelligence, humor, stories, and kind nature. Besides his parents, David is survived by his brother and caregiver Joe Ambrose of Jamaica, VT, his cousins, John Fletcher, Jim Fletcher, Laureen Moran, Jean Smith, Roy Henshaw, Jim Henshaw, Matt Ambrose, Mark Ambrose, Luke Ambrose, and Michelle Harmon, and his very good friend Joe Haukebo of Angel Fire, NM. David was predeceased by his step-father F. Roger Perreault. Relatives and friends are planning to honor and celebrate David's life by gathering for his funeral service in the Lamoureux Fletcher and Smith Funeral Home, 105 Central St., Gardner, on Wednesday June 12, 2013 beginning at 2PM. A calling hour will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday June 12, 2013 from 1PM until the start of the service. Burial with military honors will follow the service in Greenlawn Cemetery, Bridge St., Baldwinville. In lieu of flowers, David's family kindly asks donations in his memory be made to the Gardner Visiting Nurses Association Hospice, 34 Pearly Lane, Gardner, MA 01440, or to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
