David Richard Blankenship, 75, of Visalia, California passed away suddenly on December 31, 2016 in Visalia, California. He was a member of a Pioneer Family whose ancestors settled in Visalia in 1850.
David was born in Tulare, California on September 26, 1941 to William Richard and Jessie Vivian Blankenship. He was raised and educated in Visalia, graduating from Redwood High School with the Class of 1959 and College of The Sequoias with an Associates of Arts Degree in 1961. While at Redwood he was a member of the tennis team. David graduated from the University of Southern California in 1964 with a degree in Chemistry. He was a member of the Trojan National Championship Tennis Team two consecutive years, 1963 and 1964. He worked at Armstrong Tire Company as a chemist, Jostens as a Pressman for five years and then for Real Fresh Creamery in Visalia for twenty two years, retiring in 2005. David continued to play tennis at the Racquet Club for many years and was a member Visalia Bowling League until 2015. He was an avid reader and a lifelong USC Fan. David kept in shape by walking many miles and training at the Gym.
David was preceded in death by his parents William and Jessie; two sisters, Lorna M. Jones and Nadine E. Mullin.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his brother William Blankenship and wife Reba of Pahrump, NV; one sister Merilynn L. Hart of Lancaster, PA; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2017 from 11 - 2 with Celebration of Life Services beginning at 3 p.m. at Miller Memorial Chapel, 1120 W. Goshen Avenue in Visalia.
