Dawn Kaye Williams-Ross was born on April 2, 1965 in Denver, Colorado to the late Willie and Victoria Williams. She accepted Christ at an early age and attended Park Hill United Methodist Church with her parents. Dawn later joined Shorter A.M.E. Church where she became a member of the choir. Dawn attended Denver Public Schools and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1983. Throughout her high school years, Dawn participated in the Jr. ROTC, Drill Team, Youth Choir and loved cake decorating and fashion design. She received her BA degree in Education from Metropolitan State College in Denver. As a student at Metropolitan State College, Dawn was an honor student and initiated into the Alpha Kappa Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. In addition, she received awards for Citizenship, Honor Roll and Special Chorus. Dawn moved to Austin, TX in 1990 where she accepted a teaching position with Austin Independent School District. She immediately became a member of Metropolitan A.M.E. Church and joined the choir where she was able to showcase her beautiful voice with the Golden Voices, Mass Choir and Voices of Praise. In addition, she directed the New Generation Praise Dancers. She taught for six years at Brentwood Elementary School and thirteen years at Norman Elementary School. Due to failing health in October, 2011 she was forced to take a disability retirement. Outside of church and school she found time to be a part of two Boyd Vance productions: Black Nativity and God's Trombone and sang "O Happy Day" in the film "The New Guy". Dawn married Warner L. Ross, III on July 11, 1998. To this union three children were born. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Jesse Leon Bell, Jr. and nephew David A. Bell. Dawn is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Warner L. Ross, III. Her children: Imani Orie, Warner Lotana, IV and Donalvon Kelechi, step-daughters: Marquita and LaQuanna Johnson-Ross, sisters: Charolette R. Bell, Linda S. Williams (Larry), nephews: Lawson A, Langston and Jesse L. Bell, III all of Denver, CO, a mother-in-law, Gloria W. Ross, grandmother-in-law, Mrs. Odessa Whittington and brother-in-law, Carl Wilson Ross, and a host of other relatives and friends.
