West Wardsboro- Deborah A. "Debbie" Ellis, 57 of Cross Road died unexpectedly late Monday morning, November 26, 2012 at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital with her family at her side following an extended illness. Debbie was born in Brattleboro on August 30, 1955 the daughter of John and Anita (Leclaire) Doucette. She was raised and educated in Brattleboro and was a graduate of Brattleboro Union High School, Class of 1973. She had worked as a store clerk at the West Wardsboro Store for the past one and one half years and previously worked at the Dummerston Neighbors Store on Route 30 in Newfane; Hannaford's Store in Brattleboro and had been employed at the former Spofford Hall. Debbie had also waitressed at several local Brattleboro area restaurants through the years. Of her leisure time activities she enjoyed arts and crafts that included making Christmas wreaths, loved the outdoors and quality time spent with her family. She was known for her spirit of generosity always ready to assist anyone in need. On May 30, 1992 at the home of her parents on Washington Street she was married to George Ellis who survives. Besides her faithful and devoted husband of 20 years she leaves one son, Richie Sanborn of Newfane and her daughter Nicole Sanborn of Worcester, Mass, her mother Anita Stacy of Brooksville, FL, four brothers, Lee Doucette and Timothy Doucette both of Newfane, Michael Doucette of Marietta, GA and Eric Carlton of Hillsboro, NH, seven grandchildren and several aunts, uncles, many nieces, nephews and cousins and a large host of friends. She was predeceased by her father who died in 1996. A Celebration of her life and reception will be held on Sunday at the Newbrook Fire Station in Newfane from 12 noon to 4 P.M. There are no calling hours at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Debbie's name may be made to The Oncology Dept at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital, 17 Belmont Ave., Brattleboro, VT 05301.
