Deborah (Debby) Jeanne Deerfield, 55, passed away, with her children by her side, on Friday, January 26th, 2018. She died of a broken heart from the loss of her husband, Eddie, 13 months prior.

Debby was born in Vestal, New York to Roy Charles and Constance Jeanette (Theodore) Parr on April 28th, 1962. She was their fourth child, following brothers, Ted and Chuck and her sister, Darlene. The neighborhood where she grew up was always described as one from the sitcoms of the time. Debby was a determined child, going as far as digging her own swimming pool for her leisure in the backyard. She fondly remembered visits with her Italian immigrated grandfather, Romolo. Tragedy plagued her family, as she lost her father when she was 9. At age 15, she moved to Hampton, Virginia to live with Ted. She graduated from Kecoughtan High School in 1980. She attended Thomas Nelson Community College briefly after high school for general studies.

It was in 1981 that Debby met her soul mate, Eddie. She felt that this was when her life truly began. Eddie was a package deal, with his daughter Patty, who Debby welcomed into her life and heart. Married in 1984, they welcomed their first child together, a daughter, named Darlene Constance, shortly after. In 1987 they welcomed their son, Jonathan Michael. She was not the typical mom who baked cookies, but there are other things, unique to her that her children will fondly remember. She participated in our lives growing up, even while she was working. She came to our recitals and games.

Debby worked as an HVAC mechanic for the Naval Public Works Center in Norfolk, Virginia. She was dedicated to doing the best job she could, graduating top of her night school class at Tidewater Community College studying refrigeration, heating and air conditioning. Unfortunately, she retired disabled in 2004. During her retirement she loved to sit out at the table in the front yard, drinking a beer with her husband, family and neighbors. Joking and laughing as they talked about current events or something silly someone in her circle did. As long as it was warm and sunny, you could find her sitting at that table. And there was always a good reason to eat lobster.

Debby was preceded in death by her husband, the love of her life, Eddie in 2016. She is survived by her children, Darlene (Chris) Mook of Hampton, Virginia and Jonathan (Aline) Deerfield of Newport News, Virginia; and grandchildren, Adelynn Mook, and Tyler and Juliet Rodgers. She also leaves behind her brothers and sister and many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank all of those who have supported us and her during these last 13 turbulent months before she could be reunited with our dad. She missed him more than words can express. And as written in his obituary, "they were each other's purpose and their love transcended even through death." We can only hope that their walk through hell is over and they are both free of their earthly worries and pain. We love and miss you mom; please send our love to dad and tell him we miss him.

A celebration of Debby's life will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home.

Friends are encouraged to visit to share memories and words of condolence with the family.
