Debra L. Sluti, 63, of Oneonta, lost her courageous fight with Leukemia, Thursday, February 9, 2017 at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston.

She was born August 29, 1953 in Oneonta, the daughter of Girard and Esther (Olds) Butler. She attended school in Otego and Sidney. She graduated from Sidney H.S. in 1972 and enrolled in the nursing program at Delhi College.

She met her loving husband George Sluti while working as a hospital ward clerk. They were married June 7, 1975 in Sidney.

While working for Fox Hospital, she worked per diem for Dr. Jordan Tannenbaum C.A.H.C.O. and retired from Susquehanna Family Practice as a Medical Office Assistant for Dr.'s Carolyn and Christopher Wolf-Gould. In her time working with Fox Hospital she instantly was welcoming to everyone she met and made many lifelong friends.

Debra was a Catskill Area Hospice volunteer and greatly enjoyed the activities, especially helping to organize various activities including the snacks at the bereavement camps.

She had a love of the ocean, horseback riding and had a special love of pets and nature.

Debra enjoyed the Holiday gatherings at her Aunt Betty's and Uncle Dick's and at her cousins Bill and Jill.

She was a communicant of St. Mary's Our Lady of the Lake, Cooperstown, with many fond memories of Fr. John.

She is survived by her husband, George Sluti; daughter, Christine and fiancé, Christopher, son, Jonathan and fiancé, Lorrie, and daughter, Katherine and fiancé, Trever; sister, Sandy and brother, Carl and their children. Debra was predeceased by her parents, Girard and Esther and cousins, Richard, Susan and Yvonne.

Debbie will be greatly missed by her lifelong friends: Patti, Judy, Kathy and Lillian.

A funeral mass will be offered on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Church, 39 Walnut Street, Oneonta with Fr. John Rosson officiating.
