Della Eileen Mullins, 95, of Charleston, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 22, at her daughter’s home, after a long illness.

She was born December 6, 1921, in Clay County, to the late Osie and Albert Durham. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Ober Mullins (52 years) and Chilton Mullins (14 years), as well as brothers, Harry and Howard Durham; and sisters, Ruby Hinkle, Mazie VanKirk, Thelma Mullins and Opal Mullins.

Della is survived by her daughters, Christine Bower of Campbells Creek, Joanie Brainard of Dunbar, Brenda and son-in-law, Ed Durham, of South Charleston; grandchildren, Ober Bower (Lisa), Robert Bower (Connie), Michael Belcher (Laura), Steven Belcher (Donna), Amber Grierson and Zachary Brainard; step-granddaughters, Jenni Harris (Chris) and Sarah Beavers (Andrew); great-grandchildren, Jana Goff (Jeff), Mayada Bower, Haley, Anna and Josh Belcher, Kaelyn Bentley, Savannah and Sophie Grierson and Kennedi Brainard; one great-great-grandson, Michael White. Della had two stepsons, William “Bill” Mullins (Linda) of Lincolnton, GA and David Mullins (Lynn) of Millen, GA.

Della was a faithful and active member of Liberty Christian Church in Cinco for 63 years, where she sang alto in the choir she and Ober started. She taught Sunday school, worked in Vacation Bible School, and a member of the Ladies Circle. Della was a wonderful cook, best known for her graham cracker pie. She loved to sing, play piano, sew, crochet and work puzzles.

She graduated from Clay County High School in 1941 and attended Charleston School of Commerce with certificates in shorthand and typing. She worked for Nelson Transfer in Charleston until her marriage to Ober. Della volunteered at Saint Francis Hospital for eight years.

Della was a healthy, vibrant and spunky woman her entire life. Even after her injury, she fought to recover and never gave up. She loved life and always said she had been one of the luckiest girls in the world.

The funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2017, at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden, with Pastors Ira Keller and Randy Wilson officiating. The burial will follow the service at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes. Visitation with family and friends will be held Friday, August 25, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
