Delores A. (Mitchell) Bleakley, of Andes, NY and formerly of Buchanan, NY, peacefully passed away on Saturday, January 23rd at the age of 79 after a long illness. She was born in Peekskill, NY, on November 2, 1936 to Samuel and Florence (Boyle) Mitchell. On September 17th, 1955, she married the love of her life, Bernard Bleakley.
Delores was a 1954 graduate of Hendrick Hudson High School. Throughout her lifetime, she worked for various businesses in the Buchanan area. She was a 44 year member of the Buchanan FD Ladies Auxiliary. Her hobby was ceramics which she enjoyed so much that she even taught classes. Her pieces are displayed proudly in her friends and families homes. In 1994, Bernie and Delores retired to Andes, NY. What Delores loved most in this world were her children and grandchildren. She loved sitting back, watching and listening to the antics of her family, especially on her favorite holidays, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Delores is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years, Bernie, and her adoring 6 children; Frances (Dennis) Colwell, Gail (Michael) Ruh, Bernard Jr. (Peggy), Thomas (Suzanne), Sean (Jill), and Dennis (Maria). She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren; Craig, Krystin, Richard, Kevin, Kaitlyn, Timothy, Alyssa, Jessica, Kurtis, Kyle, Michael and Aaron, and her great granddaughter, Allis, all of whom she cherished. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law Jeannie Casadone, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was pre-deceased by her parents, her sister Patricia Anderson, and her twin grandsons, Mitchell and Matthew.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 from 4-8PM at Edward F. Carter Funeral Home, 170 Kings Ferry Rd., Montrose, NY. A Funeral Service will be celebrated 10AM, Thursday, January 28th also at Edward F. Carter Funeral Home in Montrose, NY with burial to follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Verplanck, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Buchanan Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
