Dennis Gene Bernhart


On the afternoon of January 4, 2018, Dennis Gene Bernhart, 72, of the Woodlands, Texas passed away at his home after a year and a half battle with cancer and a lung disease. Memorial contributions may be given to Operation Military Embrace (OME), or the Woodlands Church.

Dennis was born on May 27, 1945 in Kansas City, Missouri. He was raised in several cities around the United States, in addition to a short time in Germany. After high school at North High he attended California State Polytechnic College in San Luis Obispo. It was at Cal Poly that he met his wife Charlene. They were married September, 10,1967. After completing his BSME degree he took a commission as 2nd. Lt. in the U.S. Army in 1969 and was honorably discharged in 1971. His 32 year career with Fluor Corporation, a global E & C company moved the family to various locations, including four years in London.

Dennis enjoyed, golf, fishing, poker and bridge. Dennis was most passionate about Operation Military Embrace (OME). He spent the last eight years raising money to send care packages to our troops serving in harms way.

He is survived by his mother M. Gene Welch; a sister, Terry Lynn Findley and husband Richard Findley. Also surviving are wife Charlene and two daughters, Kristen Michelle Thibodeau and husband Peter Joseph Thibodeau; and daughter Daisy Lynn Harms and husband Joel Peter Harms; five grandchildren, Kaitlyn M. Thibodeau, Olivia Collette Thibodeau, Grace Vivian Harms, Hudson Peter Harms, and Zaya Gene Harms. Also two beloved dogs Winston and Mimi.
