Diane Lee Stearns from Houston Texas passed away peacefully at age 68, on Friday January 12, 2018, after long bout with breast cancer.
She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on September 26, 1949 to Myrtle and Marvin Stearns. She spent many years moving around with the family as a young child eventually settling in Houston where she graduated from Madison High School. In college she started with a major in Journalism and Psychology at University of Houston obtaining a minor in both. She then transferred and to the University of Texas Medical Center where she graduated with honors obtaining a Bachelors of Science in Nursing. During her nursing career she worked with DeBakey, flew with Life Flight, spent many years focused in the Neo Natal units caring for the most critical infants. Once she stopped working as a full time nurse when her beloved daughter was born she worked part time in a variety of industries including teaching at a school for English as a 2nd language, home care giver, and most recently at the Houston Intercontinental Airport helping the aged & disabled make their way through the airport even though she had several physical limitations herself.
Diane was a lifelong student both in and out of the classroom. She studied and explored the Native American Indian Nations, the arts, music and was an avid reader. She received multiple certifications, including Christian Grief Counsellor after turning her life over to the Lord. Diane was born with an amazing, loving, and giving heart. She also volunteered many hours to multiple organizations including Cy Fair Independent School District as a mentor for struggling students, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America, the Lupus Foundation, Animal Shelters, Cornerstone Baptist Church, Champion Forest Baptist Church and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She truly gave all she could and will be dearly missed by many.
She was preceded in death by her loving mother Myrtle Stearns, and Grandparents. She is survived by her Daughter Inde Stearns, Granddaughter Athena Stearns, Father Marvin Stearns, Sister Cynthia McCraw, Brother-in-law Billy McCraw, Niece Mariryan and Nephews Ibrahim, Alexander, and Anthony. She has been blessed with many, many dear sweet friends that were always considered family.
