Don Hill, 85, passed away on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at his favorite place in the world, Lowman, Idaho. He was born on April 10, 1927 to Glenn and Annie Mary Rae Hill in Elk River, Idaho. He was the fourth of five children. In 1954, he married a little Finnish girl from Long Valley, named Zona Bollar, in McCall, Idaho.

At fifteen years old he went to San Francisco to work in the shipyards in Sausalito, California. Three years later, at eighteen, he joined the US Army. Don was honorably discharged in 1946.

He worked at Meadow Gold Dairies for eighteen years. He started as a route driver and then a supervisor. In 1967 he bought his first Drive Inn on Orchard St. in Boise, called Don's In and Out. In 1975, he partnered with his son, Bryan, and son-in-law, Dale Ratcliff, and they opened Keystone Pizza in Meridian. Bryan and Don later opened another Keystone Pizza in Kuna. In The summer of 1975-76 Don and Ken Marler operated the South Fork Lodge in Lowman, Idaho, which began his love for the Lowman Valley. At that time he built his pride and joy cabin along the South fork of the Payette River. There was no place else he would rather be than sitting on his lawn watching the river roll by. He was the founding father of the Burger Dens in Idaho. The first one opened in 1977, located in Meridian, with Ken Marler. Burger Dens' were in Meridian, McCall, Lewiston, Middleton, Eagle, and New Plymouth. Don and Bryan also purchased the Kuna Drive Inn.

Don is survived by his wife, Zona; children, Patricia Ratcliff(Dale) of Sammamish, WA, Bryan Hill (Roxanne) of McCall, ID, ZoAnne Lindsey (Toby) of Meridian, ID; grandchildren, Trista Ratcliff, Justin Hill, Carissa Hill Lohff, and Cassidy Lindsey; great grandchildren, Jackson Ratcliff, Madilynn Lohff, Hunter Hill, and special surrogate son, Ken Marler of Meridian.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Ray, Tiny, Ivy, and Dick.

A memorial service with reception to follow will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, September 14, 2012 at the Red Rock Christian Church, 1124 S. Roosevelt St. in Boise.
