Don Steven Mace Sr., 90, of Beaumont, Texas, was born August 29, 1927 in Centerpoint, Indiana to Marcella Burroughs and Clay Mace. He moved to Beaumont, Texas in 1943 and attended and graduated from Beaumont High School. Don was very active in sports - football, track and especially basketball. He attended Texas A & M and Lamar on basketball scholarships. He was skilled in cabinet making and carpentry. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing and square dancing.

Don met the love of his life, Shirley Peters, as a junior in high school and they later married in 1948. They were married for 69 years and 9 months. He worked at DuPont from 1947 until 1982, when they retired to Bolivar, Texas. He built their retirement home and they enjoyed 26 years of retirement 'Til Hurricane Ike put them "Out to Pasture" in Port Arthur, Texas near their children.

Don was a man of God - always attending and working in church. He served as Secretary Treasurer and Administrative Chairman. He was a member 29 years at North End Methodist Church in Beaumont, 26 years at Bolivar Methodist and a current member of First Methodist Church in Nederland, Texas.

He is preceded in death by his parents Marcella and Clay Mace, sister Nancy and brother-in-law Charles Preble.

He is survived by his wife Shirley and their children Don Steven Mace Jr and his wife Marissa and daughter Janice Kathleen Mace and her husband Louis DeLarue. He also leaves five grandchildren; Clay, Samuel and Don Jones, Christopher Reviere and Gabriel Mace; sixteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; one sister-in-law Chris Peters of Houston, Texas and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Clay, Samuel, Don and Giles Jones as well as Chris Reviere and Gabriel Mace.

The family would like to thank Dr. Henderson, Dr. Soberon, Dr. Bransford, Dr. Bowling and Pathfinder Home Health for their care and kindness during his illness.
