Donald Lee Sims, 61, was called home to our Lord after his courageous 16 month battle against Stage IV Glioblastoma brain cancer. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his immediate family, Thursday, August 3, 2017, Visitation: 6p-8p Monday, August 7, 2017, at Shannon Rufe Snow Funeral Home in Watauga,Tx.
Funeral: 2 p.m., Tuesday August 8, 2017 at Shannon Rufe Snow Funeral Home Chapel.

Don was born June 18, 1956 at Carswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth, Tx.

He won the lottery as he put it; when he married Melody Ann Gallian April 29, 1977. He was extremely loving and proud of his two daughters.

Don proudly served our country in the United States Army from 1973 - 1980. He was a passionate man who loved the Dallas Stars, and Dallas Cowboys. He worked as a truck driver for 36+ years until he was forced to stop due to his illness.

Don was an avid deer hunter and a practical joker. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose strong convictions were matched with a thoughtful compassion for others. He often showed his faith in practical ways, taking the initiative to help others through thoughtful acts of service. He treated people in need with compassion and dignity, and found practical ways to help them. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Azle.

SURVIVORS: Wife and best friend of 40 years , Melody Gallian Sims
children; daughter, Melissa Van Hooser and husband Blake Van Hooser of Fort Worth, Daughter, Rebecca Trinkle and Husband James Trinkle of Fort Worth, 3 grandchildren; Addison Van Hooser, Tyler Van Hooser, Baby Trinkle whom is expected to arrive February 2018. He is also survived by his mother in law, Rebecca Gallian, Brother in law, Morgan Gallian and wife Shauna Gallian, Sister in law, Susan Mauppin and Husband Charles Mauppin, Aunt Martha Hudson and husband Lawrence Hudson, Aunt Janice Beckom and husband Ed Beckom, and many other cherished nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
