Donald Martin Doughty (Pops), 86 of Temple, Texas passed away April 1, 2017 in Temple. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00pm at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home, Temple, Texas. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at 10:00am with Pastor Rodney Tedford officiating at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home, Temple, Texas. Burial will follow at Rogers Cemetery.

Pops was born on March 4, 1931 at Scott and White Hospital in Temple, Texas to Jesse Doughty and Margaret Martin. Growing up Donald had 13 siblings, Marvin, Anna Mae, Chester, Orland, Dorothy, Catherine, Margaret, Robert Lee, Elmer, Jesse, Barbara and Bruce. When Don was six years old, he started picking cotton with a 6-foot sack along side his dad, Jess. He would pick off his dad's row and together with his brothers and sisters they would pick almost a bale a day. As a child he attended many schools in Bell County. He started first grade at Heidenheimer School in 1937. He would walk to school with his brother, Marvin. In 1938, Don attended Sandy Ridge School on the other side of Rogers. He finished second grade at Highland Scool where he met Winona Pyburn. Throughout his childhood he attended many other schools in the Bell County area. In 1948, Donald joined the National Guard and served from 1948 to 1955. He married Winona Pyburn on October 6, 1950 and lived in the Temple area all their lives. Together they were blessed with two sons, Ronald and Larry. They were members of Avenue T Church of Christ. On December 26, 1955, Don went to work for the Fire Department in Temple. He retired as Deputy Chief on March, 31 1990. Donald served 34 years and 9 months with the Temple Fire Department. On his days off from the fire department he worked many jobs, including, working for Sears, driving a cement truck, he was a driver for Red Arrow, Southern Plaza and Central Freight Lines. He also worked part time for the City of Temple Water Department. Donald finally retired and spent his days, camping and fishing on the Brazos River with his kinfolk. Don and Winona traveled extensively in the United States. Donald was a loving husband, father, Pops and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him.

He is proceeded in death by his loving wife Winona, his parents Jesse and Margaret Doughty, siblings, Marvin, Anna Mae, Chester, Orland, Dorothy, Catherine, Margaret, Robert Lee, Elmer and Bruce.

Donald is survived by his sons, Ronald Doughty and wife Ruth and Larry Doughty and wife Carey, one brother, Jesse Doughty, one sister, Barbara Hargrove, 5 grandchildren, Randy Doughy, Jeremy McNiel, Jason McNiel, Matthew Doughty, and Natalie Doughty,16 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
