Donald I. Mitchell, 92, of Silver Springs, Nevada; formerly of Creston, died January 11, 2018 in Reno, Nevada.

A Graveside Military Committal will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Graceland Cemetery, south of Creston. The Theodore J. Martens Post #1797 Creston V.F.W. will be giving military honors.

Donald Iowa Mitchell, son of Beatrice (Kidd) Mitchell and Cloyd A. Mitchell, was born on August 2, 1925 in Creston. He was raised by his grandmother, Maude Mae Brown and great- grandmother, Francis Josephine Welch. He was educated in Creston Schools and California Schools. He earned his Associate Degree at Sheppard College of West Virginia; Bachelor Degree at the University of California – Berkley and his Master Degree at Shippensburg University. Don also studied Counter Intelligence with the U.S. Dept. of Army.

Don served in the United States Army during World War II working in Counter Intelligence. He served from 1944 to 1950. He worked in Washington D.C. for many years as a Liaison Officer as an Intelligence Research Specialist with the Library of Congress. Later he worked in Reno, Nevada as a National Service Officer with the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Don retired to Silver Springs, Nevada.

Don was survived by two cousins, Dr. Robert Mitchell (wife Dr. Honor Franklin) of Dallas, Texas and their son, Hahn and daughter, Sullivan; and Barbara (Mark) Berggren of Golden, Colo. and their daughter, Perri.
