Donald Ray Ransom



Donald Ray Ransom, 69 of Arnett went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday June, 10, 2015 at Bowers Hospice House, Beckley, WV at 10:48 PM. He was born February 24, 1946 at Cool Ridge, WV; he was a son of the late George Waine and Lanzy Jane Massie Ransom.



In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Clough Ransom; grandparents, Houston Burdine and Elsie Jane Hederick Ransom, Harvey Luther and Josie Hornsby Massie; brothers, Arnold and Bobby Ransom; sisters, Polly Ransom, Ina and husband, James Lilly, Betty Ransom; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Geraldine Workman.



Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 6 years, Justine Ransom; his step-daughter, Cheryl Ann Hudgins; step-granddaughter, Elizabeth and husband, Daren Anderson; step-great-grandchildren, Johnathon Carnegie and Lillie Ann Anderson; sisters, Tammy and husband, Frank Pack of Fitzpatrick, WV, Loma and husband, Jerry Gunter of Beckley, WV, Brenda Webber of Cool Ridge and brothers, Dallas Ransom of Lexington, SC, Ronnie Ransom of Cool Ridge, WV, George and wife, Wanda Ransom of Ghent, WV; sister-in-law, Anna Steinback of Cool Ridge, WV,; sister-in-law, Marlene and husband, Jerry Lucas of Glen Daniel, WV, brothers-in-law, Eddie and wife, Peggy Cook of Arnett, WV, J.L. Cook of Glen Daniel, WV, Ronald and Denny Clough; many nieces and nephews.



Donald went to school at Shady Spring, WV where he was on the wrestling team. He was employed at Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. in Maryland. He was a self-employed truck driver for twenty years and also worked for Double D. Trucking. Donald served as a member of the WV and Baltimore, MD Army National Guard for 7 years.



He attended the Cool Ridge Community Church, Salvation Army Church in MD, a member of the Arnett Chapel Church, Arnett, WV. Donald enjoyed watching football, basketball, car races, camping, fishing, 4-wheeling, and working. He also enjoyed the beach, church and spending time with family; he loved his dogs, Shadow(Man), Snuggles (little Guy), and Mollie (baby girl).



Services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, June 15, 2015 at the Arnett Chapel Church, Arnett, WV with Rev. Larry Kinder, Matt Epling and Mark Steinback and special singers at the church. Entombment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. James, Charles and Ronald Dickens, Edsel Simmons, Terry Dillon, Tony Brown and Jeffrey Lucas will serve as pallbearers. Lewis Earl Clay will serve as an honorary pallbearer.



Friends may gather with the family Sunday from 6 – 9 at the Arnett Chapel Church, Arnett, WV.
