.Springfield-Rev. Donald Richard Garvue, 81, of Springfield, passed away at 6:32 am Friday, March 31, 2017, at Lewis Memorial Christian Village.

He was born in Marshfield, WI, the son of Ollie and Hilda (Parbs) Garvue. His parents, a sister, a half-brother, and his granddaughter, Maddie preceded him in death.

Don attended University Minnesota, to study Architecture. While involved in a class project to design a church, Don was led to Concordia Theological Seminary LCMS, Springfield, IL graduating in 1963. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard.

He married the love of his life, Faye Berry in Springfield, in 1962 and she survives. Pastor is also survived by his two sons; Eric (Kimberly) Garvue of Springfield, and Bryce Garvue of Louisville, KY, four granddaughters; Hallie, Miriam, Rebekah and Hannah Garvue, two nieces and a nephew.

Pastor Garvue began his ministry during his Vicarage in Vernal, UT and Rangly, CO. After his ordination in 1964, Pastor served at Our Savior Lutheran Church. Union City, MI. until 1967. He then served Calvary Lutheran Church, Plymouth, IN before moving to Chesterton, IN in 1971 to serve St. Paul's Lutheran Church, until he was called to Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Louisville, KY where he served until his retirement in 2006. While at St. Paul's and Pilgrim, he also served as a circuit, counselor for the respective districts.

After his retirement, Pastor and his wife returned to Springfield, and in 2007, Pastor was asked to serve the Shut In Ministry of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, LCMS. He served that ministry until health concerns led him to a second retirement in 2011. He was an avid (to say the least) Green Bay Packer fan, enjoyed woodworking, but most of all, enjoyed his family and spending time involved in their activities. He has a bright sense of humor, even as his health became for difficult, he was known to laugh and joke with the medical staff.
