Coddington, Doreen Lenor, of Beaverdam, VA, went home to the Lord on Monday, November 20, 2017, after a brief illness. Doreen was born in Newark, NJ, on February 29, 1932, the daughter of Jos Barreire, a Spanish immigrant, and Lenore Hasseldine. Doreen enjoyed 62 years of wedded adventure with her husband, David M. Coddington, who preceded her in death. A lifelong Presbyterian, Doreen was an elder and was the first lay woman to serve as moderator of the Presbytery in Elizabeth, NJ. She relocated to VA in 1987, became an active member of the Ashland Presbyterian Church, and served on the Hanover County Family Assessment & Planning Team (FAPT). Doreen loved to read, watch Jeopardy, and host family gatherings. She had a special gift for connecting with others and turning strangers into friends. She is survived by her brother, William Barreire (Laura); her children, Melissa Kanar (Thomas), David Coddington (Peggy), and Melanie Coddington (James Hansen); grandchildren, Laura Stapleton (Jeff), Brian Muller (Jessica); Jason Kanar; and great grandchildren, Gwendolyn and Rosalyn Muller. Friends may gather for "Feasting and Telling" (informal sharing of food and stories) on Sunday evening, November 26, 6:30-8pm, in the fellowship hall at Ashland Presbyterian Church. The family will greet friends at the church on Monday morning, November 27, at 10am; to be followed by the funeral service at 11am and lunch at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Ashland Presbyterian Church (410 Virginia St, Ashland, VA) and St. Joseph's Indian School (PO box 100, Chamberlain, SD, 57325). Online condolences may be conveyed to the family at www.nelsenashland.com.
