Doris Mae Jones Brady Kuscher was born May 24, 1923 in Houston, Texas to Carlos Jones and Pauline Callaway Jones Tucker. She grew up and attended school in east Houston. She attended Austin High School where she was in the drill team, the Scottish Brigade, for all three years and carried the American flag.
Upon graduation she married Arthur Brady Sr. and had two children, a daughter Doris Mae Jr. and a son Arthur Jr. She was actively involved in her children's education in the PTA and volunteering in things like the school library. Shortly after her marriage she became active in Christian Science and continued to study independently with friends. She also was a long-time member of Order of the Eastern Star.
After her first husband passed away in 1980 she married Howard Kuscher and they moved to Livingston, Texas where she lived from 1982 to 2008 until shortly after her second husband's death. While there she was active in the local theater group where Howard was director and served as historian. She also was involved in the Polk County Heritage Society and as a docent at the log cabin. She then moved to Kingwood, Texas where a group of like-minded friends lived who met for Bible study. She resided there until she passed away suddenly and peacefully on June 27, 2017 at the age of 94.
Doris was a kind, fun loving person who was always up for an adventure. Everyone who met her described her as one of the sweetest people they knew. From an early age she sacrificed and took care of others and always put their needs above hers. She also served as the extended family historian making scrapbooks for everyone and doing genealogical research. She wrote that history was like a treasure hunt in which we find gems of exciting interest; like in the Bible where we find truths that explain our real being through an understanding of God.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carlos Jones in 1978 and Pauline Tucker in 1985; her two husbands, Arthur Brady Sr. in 1980 and Howard Kuscher in 2005; and her daughter Doris Peterson in 2008. She is survived by her son Arthur Brady Jr., her two grandsons Fred Blackmon Jr. and Kirk Blackmon, a great granddaughter Lisa Blackmon, several great great grandchildren, and two nieces Janet Cooper and Jackie Lynn Brady. In addition she is survived by her stepdaughter, Gaye Rosland; her stepson Gary Kuscher; her step grandchildren Bernt, Finn and Katherine Rosland and several step great grandchildren.
After cremation a memorial service will be held on July 29 at 3 PM at Dignity Kingwood Funeral Home at 22800 Highway 59 North. In lieu of flowers you may make a donation to the ASPCA. Let us come together and celebrate her wonderful life by bringing our own stories about her to share with others.
