Dorothy “Dot” Benko, 78, of Windsor, beloved wife of the late Adam Benko, Jr., died at home on Thursday, (July 6, 2006). Born on March 30, 1928 in East Hartford to the late Adam and Anna (Shewchuck) Viklinetz, she was raised in East Hartford and had lived in Windsor for the last 54 years. Dorothy was well known for the letters she wrote to family and friends. Her thoughtful and encouraging words kept her family and friends close and allowed her to care for those she loved. In her spare time, Dot enjoyed gardening, playing bingo, going on trips with the Windsor Senior Center, caring for her “PT” bird and spending time with her grandchildren and family. She is dearly loved by her two daughters and their families; Mary Ann and Jim Grant of Suffield and Dodie Benko and Tom Stribula of Windsor. She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren who were all a very important part of her life, Jennifer and Scott Shufelt of Windsor, Heather Grant of Suffield, Jim Grant of Suffield, Adam and Sarah Smith of Portland, OR, and Daniel Smith and Marcia Lerario of South Windsor. Extra blessings were brought by great grandchildren Andrew Grant of Suffield and Paige Shufelt of Windsor. Besides her husband of 53 years, she was predeceased by four brothers, John, Eddie, Sam and Walter Viklinetz; and a sister, Olga Allen. Dot loved all her nieces and nephews, many of who joined her at a family reunion last year. Dot had many devoted friends in her neighborhood, at the Windsor Senior Center and at bingo.
