Dorothy Hopkins was born May 18, 1923 in Alcorn Co. to the late John and Minnie Harris. She died November 17, 2017 at Whitfield Nursing Home.


She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church serving as clerk and as Jr. Warden. She was a 1940 graduate of Corinth High School and Corinth Business College in 1942. For several years worked for the Internal Revenue Service in Nashville, TN. And Louisville, KY., the last position being Secretary to the Asst. Chief of the Income Tax Division.


She retired from Packaging Corp. of America serving as secretary in Counce TN. and later as Administrative Secretary in Evanston, IL before retiring. Before moving back to Corinth in 1991 she was legal secretary for the Law firm of Rutledge and Rutledge in Memphis, TN. After moving back to Corinth, she was Executive Director for Corinth-Alcorn Literacy Council and served as Trustee for the Curlee House, Corinth Library. Past board member of Corinth Preservation Committee and Keep Corinth Beautiful. She was a Worthy Matron of Corinth Chapel #27 of the Order of the Eastern Star. In 2005 she received the Lifetime Achievement Award for the Alliance for her serves to the community.


She was preceded in death by her husband James Howard Hopkins; sister Martha Pratt.


She is survived by her daughter Sylvia (Davey) Ruth; grandchildren Hollie Ruth (Matt) Davis, Michael (Pam) Ruth; great grandchildren Parker Davis, Riley Davis, step-great grandson Michael Johnston, River Kyle; nieces Ellen (Gene) Crotts; nephews David (Susan) Pratt


Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday at St. Pauls' Episcopal Church with the Rev. Ann Frazier officiating.


Family will receive friends Sunday from 1:30 to service time at the church.


In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to Corinth-Alcorn Literacy Council or to the Corinth Alcorn animal Shelter.
