Dorothy Williamson Suter-Howard, 93 of Richmond, peacefully passed away December 27, 2017 in Richmond, VA.

Dot, as she was known to her friends, was born on January 12, 1924 in Botetourt County, Virginia to Andrew Luther Williamson and Annie Clark Wickline.

Dot is preceded in death by her mother and father, her brothers Fred and Billy Ray Williamson, her husband of 34 years, Owen E. Suter Jr and her husband of 7 years, F. Joseph Howard.

Dot is survived by her four children and their spouses; Sara Suter Jones (Mark), Joan Suter Welch (Michael), Owen E. Suter III (Deborah) and Dorothy Suter Smith (Walter), also Joe Howard's daughter Carol Wells (Don), ten grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She attended Bridgewater College, where she met her future husband Owen E. Suter Jr.. Later, she transferred to the Medical College of Virginia, earning her Registered Nurse (RN) Certificate in 1946. She and Owen were married on January 18, 1947, at Wheatland Lutheran Church in Buchanan. The couple moved to Richmond and opened Suter's Handmade Furniture in Carytown, in 1949. They later moved the store to West Broad Street where they worked together until Owen's death in 1981. Dot and her son Owen Suter III, continued to run the business until her retirement. Dot was a charter member of Tuckahoe Presbyterian Church where she served in several capacities and worshiped with her family for many years. In 1989, she married Francis J. Howard at Tuckahoe Presbyterian and soon after joined Trinity United Methodist Church. Dot was an active member of Commonwealth Women's Club where she served as Treasurer for several years, the Richmond Chamber of Commerce, and the National Association of Women Business Owners. An avid golfer she was a longtime member of Hermitage Country Club.

The family would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation to the Westminster staff of the 2nd floor Avalon and 2nd and 3rd floor Parson's Health Center for their compassion and care.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, December 30, at Tuckahoe Presbyterian Church, 7000 Park Ave., Richmond, VA at 2 p.m. with Patrick Dennis officiating, with a reception to follow.
