She was baptized on May 7, 1922 and confirmed on April 14, 1935 at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church at LuVerne. Dorothy attended country school and graduated from Vernon High School near LuVerne. She was united in marriage to Leonard Rolland Wood on June 2, 1940 at Algona, Iowa; through this union three children were born: Gary, Brenda and Dale. The couple farmed in the Algona area until 1958, when they moved to Scott Township in Stevens County near Alberta, Minnesota and continued to farm. In 1983, the couple retired and moved into Alberta. Dorothy was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Alberta, where she was active in the ladies aid and church choir. She enjoyed gardening, raising flowers, crocheting, singing in the church choir and baking the best cookies and bread.
