Dorothy "Dottie" (Wiegand) Wilson, age 84, of Granby, beloved wife of 36 years to the late Richard C. Wilson, a Veteran of WWII, passed away peacefully at Meadowbrook Nursing Home on Wednesday, May 22, 2013. Dorothy was born on October 6, 1928 in Springfield, MA, and was the daughter of the late Kurt and Helen (Carroll) Wiegand. She lived happily with her family in Suffield for 41 years and then spent her retirement years in Windsor Locks. Dorothy was a wonderful, caring individual who enjoyed traveling, cooking, and reading. She also loved spending time with her dear sister, Barbara Roda. Most of all, Dorothy was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend to her family. She leaves three loving children: Michael Wilson and his wife Carol of Cape Coral, FL; Barry Wilson and his wife Vicki of Palmyra, VA; and Heidi Stephen and her husband Michael of West Suffield, CT, eight grandchildren: Richie Wilson, Kurt Wilson, Nichole Wilson Fochios, Patrick Wilson, Frank Wilson, Brendan Stephen, Taylor Stephen, and Jaime Stephen, and one great grandson: Stephen Fochios. Dorothy also leaves two sisters: Barbara Roda and Carol Galiani, two sister-in-laws: Marjorie Wilson and Virginia Wiegand, and many caring nieces and nephews. Dorothy was predeceased by a son: Kurt E. Wilson, a granddaughter: Kendall Marie Stephen, and a brother: Robert Wiegand. Dorothy's family would like to thank the many wonderful caregivers at Meadowbrook for all of their help, kindness, and support. A memorial service celebrating Dorothy's life will be held at the First Church of Christ, 689 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury, CT on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 from 6 – 9 p.m. at the Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, 443 East Street North (Rt. 159), Suffield, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Dorothy's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Connecticut, 2075 Silas Deane Highway, Suite 100, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
