Mr. Douglas "Doug" Ray Ponder believed "To Do Things Right, Do It Right the First Time". He lived, worked, and played hard. On Saturday, May 19, 2013, Mr. Douglas Ray Ponder left this world by spreading his wings to fly to meet our Lord God in Heaven.

Douglas Ray Ponder was born on May 14, 1938 to Albert Ransom and Doris McCartney Ponder at home west of Jottomtown, east of Archibald, La, A twin brother was also born, Billy Fay. Billy was too little to continue his life's journey and died 3 days later. Doug had 4 other siblings, Willie Boyer, Joy "Pretter" Storey, Johnny Lee and Jimmy Dee.

Doug married his wife, Frances Marie Traxler on February 27, 1959. They were married at the Archibald Church of Christ. To this union, three sons were born, Albert Randall "Randy" "Pee Wee", Perry Ray, and Michael Dewayne.

"Work hard and work harder" was what Doug lived by and thoroughly enjoyed. Doug worked for Texaco as a fuel delivery driver for many years. Doug began work for Carl Warren in repairing gins; to which he later transferred to the Glass Gin Repair. For several years, Doug had been and continued working in gin repair for the Rayville Producers as a maintenance foreman.

Doug's hobbies were being an avid gardener with 4 gardens located at different spots, woodworking, carpentry, cooking, deer hunting, fishing and WORK. He was a hard working man, devoted husband, father and "Papaw". Doug enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, family and friends.

Doug was preceded in death by: his parents, Albert and Doris; 2 brothers, twin brother-Billy Fay and Johnny Lee; 4 brothers-in-law, T.C. Boyer, Garland Storey, Henry Edgar Traxler Jr. and L.C. Shiers; 1 sister-in-law, Erie Bell Traxler Shiers; and his parents-in-law, Henry Edgar and Louise Miller Traxler.

Doug leaves behind his wife, Frances of Rayville, La; their 3 sons, Randy 'Pee Wee' Ponder of Waverly, Kansas, Perry Ponder, Michael Ponder both of Rayville, La; 2 sisters, Willie Ponder Boyer of Bastrop, La, Joy Ponder Storey of Arcadia, La; 1 brother, Jimmy Dee Ponder of Waskom, Tx; 2 sisters-in-law, Tina Childress Traxler, Carolyn Traxler Williamson both of Rayville, La; 1 brother-in-law, Billy Williamson of Rayville, La; 2 daughters-in-law, Mary Lou McCurry Ponder of Waverly, Kansas, LaBrena Poole Ponder of Rayville, La; 9 grandchildren, Dwan Ponder Hartner, Kelcey Ponder Lamer of Kansas, J.D. Ponder of Ohio, Jared Ponder, Jace Ponder, Jordan Ponder, Brianna Ponder, Denni Dickerson, Colt Ponder, all of Louisiana; 3 great grandchildren, Tracen Hartner of Kansas, Ashton & Johnathan Ponder of Louisiana, with another great grandbaby on the way in Ohio. Also, there were 2 grandsons-in-law, Phillip Hartner & Steven Lamer of Kansas and 2 grandaughters-in-law, Shannon Wooton Ponder of Ohio and Joanie Dunham Ponder of Louisiana. Doug also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. He will be sadly missed, but we know that he will be working hard in God's Garden.

A celebration of Doug's life was held Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at Brown-Holley Funeral Home in Rayville, La.

Speakers for the celebration were Bro. Perry Ellington, Mr. Tom Calloway and Mary Lou Ponder. Burial was in the Lone Cherry Cemetery, Mangham, La following the services. Pallbearers were Mr. Billy Crawford, Mr. Tom Calloway, Mr. Arthur Johnson, Mr. W.O. Shiers, Mr. Jessie Shiers, and Mr. Dennis Ray Shiers.
