Douglas B. Burner, of Harrisonburg, Va., and formerly of Shenandoah, Va., died on Tuesday, October 3, 2017, at Sentara RMH Medical Center.

Doug was born on January 6, 1948, to Hazel Flick Burner and the late Paul B. Burner.

Doug was a retired industrial electrician and was employed with the IBEW for a number of years before retiring in 2012.

Doug graduated from Page County High in 1966, where he was very proud to be nominated the "Best Looking" in his class. Doug excelled in football earning him the Golden Helmet Award as well as being named All-State Linebacker. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman.

In later years, Doug enjoyed planting "lots" of tomato plants to share with friends and neighbors.

Doug is survived by his mother, Hazel Flick Burner of Shenandoah; a brother, Barry P. Burner and wife Jean of Watchung, N.J.; a sister, Paula Burner-Kibler and husband Wayne of Luray, Va.; a niece, Lauren Burner-Lawrence and husband Tim of Brooklyn, N.Y.; as well as a special aunt and uncles, Betty and Phil Secrist and James Flick, and numerous cousins and a special friend, Lucille Connolly of Jeffersonton, Va.

Per Doug's wishes he will be cremated and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 14, at Christ United Methodist Church at 3 p.m., with a reception to follow the service.

A very special thanks to all the nurses and caregivers on 3West at Sentara Medical Center for their excellent care and compassion.

Thanks to George Hirschmann, Wayne Beers and Carl Dellinger, who were loyal and faithful friends.
