Douglas Leon Chitsey, age 81, of Colorado City passed away peacefully on March 20, 2017 surrounded by his family. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, March 25, 2017, at the Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Smith officiating.
Doug was born on July 10, 1935, in Wichita Falls, TX, to Eldon and Ida Prescott Chitsey. He will be remembered as "Big Doug" amongst those who knew him best. Douglas married Judy Rodgers on November 25, 1965 in Colorado City. They shared many blessed years together; welcoming "Little Doug" and Amy into the world their family was complete. Doug was a deacon at Calvary Baptist Church for many years all while being a dedicated husband, father, teacher, and coach. He coached in Hermleigh and Colorado City, as well as teaching P.E. at Snyder Elementary. He enjoyed spending his free time tending to his land and cattle; he truly loved his time on the farm. His passion was watching his grandchildren participate in sports at Wall ISD at every opportunity he had. He will be greatly missed by those he loved; and the memories made will be cherished forever.
Those left to cherish Doug's memory are his loving wife of 51 years, Judy Chitsey of Colorado City; his son, Dr. Douglas Chitsey and wife Jan; his daughter, Amy Dierschke and husband Ward all of Wall, TX; 7 grandchildren, Tre, Clint, Allie, Bryce, Tye, Connor, and Jordan; three sisters, Doris, Jo, and Carolyn; as well as his brother Jerry Chitsey.
He is preceded in death by his parents Eldon and Ida.
