Douglas Parkhurst Daniels, of Oak Grove, has been described as determined, generous and driven to succeed. He believed that everyone could be successful if they worked hard enough and demanded excellence in those around him.

Doug was born Oct. 31, 1937 in Portland to Theodore Daniels and Irene (Barnekoff) Berg and was an only child. He attended Columbia Preparatory High School and was very proud of his Civil Engineering degree from Oregon State University in 1960.

Since his childhood he had a love of cars and built his life around them. The roadway was the basis for his career and driving fast was his passion. In 1979 he founded Coral Sales Company now in its 38th year of providing Highway Safety Equipment to protect occupants of vehicles.

Doug felt that with a college degree, anyone could succeed and he was a long time benefactor of OSU, UP and PSU. In 1987 he established the Douglas P. Daniels/Coral Sales Company Scholarship to assist transportation engineering students in the Northwest. The program is celebrating its 30th year and has awarded over 850 scholarships.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents; and stepfather, Craig Berg. He is survived by his daughters, Diane (Mark) and Deborah; grandchildren, Alexander, Nicholas, Lauren and Isaac. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017, at Finley Sunset Hills Mortuary.
