Duane was born on July 6, 1933, in Allen County, Ohio, and went to be with his Lord and Saviour at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, January 13, 2018, at Bryan East Hospital after a short struggle with pneumonia. Duane resided in Lincoln. He was a graduate of Kalida High School, Kalida, Oho. After graduating, he worked in Manitowoc, Wis., for Western Electric and ultimately made a career with Hobart in Toledo, Ohio, servicing commercial equipment including a commercial mixer on the ship, Edmund Fitzgerald, immortalized by a song written by Gordon Lightfoot.
He served two years in the United States Army and three years in the Naval Reserves. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion. He enjoyed serving with 40 & 8 in South Carolina. Duane lived in many areas gathering friends all across the United States, including Ohio, Washington, Wisconsin, Nebraska, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, and Colorado.
Married to Nancy Ann (Jones) Ruebush for 20 years, they had five children, Randolph Duane Ruebush, Toledo, Ohio, Mary Jane Ruebush (deceased 1957), Seattle, Wash., Rebecca Ann (Jimmy) Boardman, Lincoln, Keith Walter Ruebush, Kalida, Ohio, and Gary Ray Ruebush, Pembroke, Ky. Duane had 13 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Juanita Rose Lytle, and brother Richard Lee Ruebush.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. We encourage those who would like to attend to wear red, white and blue because Duane was so proud of his service, or yellow because he loved that color and the warmth it emotes. An additional Ohio memorial service will be planned for a later date.
